A favicon is the small image you see in the tab part of a website. This is a good spot to add a smaller version of your logo.
First you must resize your logo, I simply took a screen shot of my logo on my home page and then pasted it into paint.
To do a screen shot (which means to copy a page as it appears on your screen) You hold CTRL+PRT SC (located just next to the delete button on your keyboard.) After you captured the screen shot, you can open up paint, and then hold down CTRL+V (which is paste.) Your paint screen should look like this:
Once you have pasted your screen into paint then you can select the part of the logo you would like to use as your favicon. You can use the whole thing, however it’s difficult to read words when they are super small, so I suggest maybe using a piece of your logo. If you don’t have an image part in your branding, you can always just use letters “SS” for example, perhaps in the colors of my logo. You can do this in paint too.
After you select your part, hold down CTRL+C to copy your selection.
Then Select “New” from the file tab, and then select “Don’t Save” at the pop up prompt. This will bring you to a fresh page.
Once you are on a fresh page you can hold down CTRL+V (This will paste the part of your logo you copied to fill the screen) Mine ended up being 128×128 px so I didn’t need to resize. However if you do need to resize it you can select resize and either put in specific dimensions or make smaller by a percentage.
You did it! You can now save your work CTRL+S or you can select save by clicking file > save or the disk at the top of the paint bar. Once you saved your favicon, head back over to your WordPress dashboard.
From there, select “Customize Your Site.”
Then select “Site Identity” from the sidebar of your dashboard.
From there, scroll down to “site icon” section and select upload or change image. This is where you will find your favicon you saved and select it to upload. When you are done, make sure you hit “Save and Publish” at the top of your dashboard sidebar.
You did it! you can now see your favicon in the left corner of your tab when you pull your webpage up. If you have your page up from before, refresh it to see the newest addition! You are a step closer to branding your site!
